At Learning Gardens Laboratory, we offer Seedling Summer Camp (formerly Sauvie Island Center Farm Camp) in July 2025.
Seedling Summer Camp is outdoor experience where children are outside all day, every day soaking up the fresh air and sunshine. Each day at Seedling Camp is a new adventure as we explore and learn on our site at Learning Gardens Laboratory. Seedlings Camp is generously supported by our partners X, Y, and Z. Through traditional camp activities—like games, camp songs, arts and crafts and more—we’ll focus on different parts of the Seedlings Camp curriculum including:

Seed to Harvest: Experience the magic of the Grow Lunch Garden! From planting tiny seeds
to tending the growing plants and finally harvesting the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor,
campers will witness the complete lifecycle of food production. This hands-on experience will
instill an appreciation for where our food comes from and the hard work that goes into growing
it.
Plant Parts Investigation: Explore the diverse world of plants and discover the many ways we
use them for food. Campers will embark on a farm-wide scavenger hunt, identifying different
plant parts, learning about their functions, and discovering the surprising variety of edible plants. From roots to leaves, flowers to fruits, we’ll explore the fascinating world of botany.
Wildlife & Food Web: The farm is home to more than just plants! Campers will investigate the
diverse wildlife that inhabits Topaz Farm, learning about the intricate connections within the
food web. Who are the farm’s foragers? What role do insects, birds, and other animals play in
the farm ecosystem? We’ll explore these questions and more through observation, tracking,
and hands-on activities.
Pollination Station: Meet the unsung heroes of the farm: pollinators! Campers will learn about
the crucial role that bees, butterflies, and other pollinators play in the reproduction of plants.
We’ll explore the science of pollination, observe pollinators in action, and discover how we can help protect these vital creatures.
